Learn & Unlearn with a Digital Recess Resource Kit

Learn & Unlearn with a Digital Recess Resource Kit

No zoom, no virtual gala! Instead, join us in a communal effort to deepen your commitment to art, equity, and Recess.

Step One:
Make a personal commitment to engage in deep work with our artists and young people to establish an abolitionist horizon and visualize its necessary steps.

Step Two:
Quantify your position on the spectrum of privilege and oppression and donate that amount to receive your Learning/Unlearning Digital Recess Resource Kit. We've suggested four tiers but you may enter any amount.

Step Three:
Receive your kit and take in the material. Proceeds from your learning will fund the learning of others through direct support of artists and youth.
35% of all contributed income will go directly into our Emergency Bail and Relief Fund which is directed to our community in the form of unrestricted resources. Our emergency funds will cover unforeseen, pressing needs of our Assembly participants and their families including bail assistance, housing emergencies, and court fees.

Do more (optional):
Join us in 2021 for an ongoing series of workshops that will deepen the learning you experience with your kit. More on that soon.

Your kit will contain learning resources created by
Assembly artists and a private link to a web workshop led by artist Shaun Leonardo

LANGUAGE:
A video to metaphorically wash your mouth out with soap. Assembly Peer Leaders Evette and Lynne will offer a soap making tutorial that you can watch any time—featuring a special 20 second hand-washing mantra they've written for you to repeat while washing with your hand-made bar.

NARRATIVE:
Recess Assembly Print Shop Manager Saint will share a work of art made to bring awareness to the multiple ways his story has been told. Spend some time with this one.

NARRATIVE SHIFT:
Artist Shaun Leonardo will guide you through a visual storytelling process, uncovering the emotional core of our personal narratives in order to locate the shared humanity in our lived experiences—a practice which extracts verbal language in exchange for a truth, however uncomfortable, which can only be conveyed by the body.

All components of your kit will be delivered by January 2021
